Insp John Soutar Suttie

Died 8 March 1914, aged 48

Whilst on patrol at night he collapsed and died of a brain haemorrhage.


Broughty Ferry Burgh Police


PC John George Samuel

Died 28 May 1911, aged 22

Drowned whilst assisting in the rescue of a colleague while bathing.


Dundee City Police


PC Ewan McDonald

Died 22 June 1851

Fatally stabbed when he intervened in a street disturbance in the early hours.


PC William Swan

Died 27 August 1868, aged 27

Drowned in the dock apparently having fallen in while on night duty.


Sgt James Watson

Died 18 September 1870, aged 48

Fatally injured by the collapse of a wall assisting at the scene of a fire.


Sgt Charles Cruickshank

Died 1 December 1882, aged 32

Collapsed and died of heart failure while on duty at Lochee Police Station.


Insp David McBay

Died 19 August 1893, aged 44

Fatally stabbed attempting to arrest a deranged armed man in a house.


DC James Palmer

Died 4 December 1896, aged 50

Died of exposure after falling into the dock while going off duty late at night.


PC James Paton Black

Died 4 November 1908, aged 21

Found drowned in the docks after falling in while on night duty.


Sgt William Dickson

Died 21 October 1911, aged 52

Collapsed and died of heart failure while patrolling his beat at night.


PC McGregor Walker

Died 16 September 1932, aged 31

Killed when a drunken driver ran into a car he had stopped.


Insp Simon Fraser Taylor

Died 8 January 1938, aged 41

Found dead in a police box where he had collapsed while on duty.


PC Robert Stirrat

Died 5 May 1941, aged 24

Killed by the detonation of an unexploded bomb he was checking.

PC James Graham

Died 22 October 1894, aged 34

Collapsed and died from a ruptured blood vessel patrolling his beat.

PC Adam Smith

Died 23 April 1909, aged 25

Collapsed and died of heart failure chasing youths causing a nuisance.

PC William MacKintosh

Died 24 September 1930, aged 31

Killed in a motorcycle crash while travelling on duty to Perth Races.


PC Samuel McGowan

Died 16 June 1940, aged 34

Found drowned in the River Tummel after being on night duty.


PC Alexander Christie

Died 30 May 1946, aged 36

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident while on motorcycle patrol.


PC Thomas Robert Muir

Died 8 September 1953, aged 28

Killed in a road traffic accident while on police motorcycle patrol.


PC Alexander McGregor Graham

Died 21 March 1960, aged 36

Collapsed and died at Dunblane near the end of his night shift.

Died 19 December 1965, aged 45

Killed when struck by a van while manning a road block after a prison escape.

PC James Easton Berwick

Died 19 July 1975, aged 54 

Collapsed and died at Ardchoille police house while on early turn duty.


PC James Forbes Cumming

Died 6 February 1980, aged 40

Collapsed and died pushing a car at the scene of a road traffic accident.


PC William Mathieson

Died 26 September 1981, aged 21

Killed in a police vehicle accident responding to a call for assistance.


PC Paul Richard North

Died 17 March 1987, aged 35

Fatally injured in a road accident while on mobile patrol near Perth.


D/Insp David McKay Stewart

Died 19 December 1989, aged 43

Killed in a road traffic accident while driving a police vehicle.


Sgt David Edward A. Connor

Died 31 August 2001, aged 42

Killed in a road accident while travelling to police headquarters.


DC Malcolm Whigham

Died 16 August 2007, aged 42

Killed in a police motorcycle accident while on secondment in West Lothian.
