This list contains more than 450 known police deaths in the six counties of Northern Ireland from criminal acts of violence since 1800; the majority of deaths were as a result of political violence and terrorist activity. In addition, between 1800 and 1922 there were some 550 known deaths by acts of violence in the Royal Irish Constabulary and its constituent forces, and the Dublin Metropolitan Police, in Southern Ireland while part of the United Kingdom, the majority as a result of political violence.
