Died 28 April 1866, aged 44

Shot and fatally wounded trying to arrest a suspect armed with a gun.


Const Patrick Keena

Died 7 November 1867, aged 22

Shot and fatally wounded by a Fenian activist he was questioning.


Const Joseph Daly

Died 24 September 1881, aged 26

Fatally wounded with a cleaver by a man he was attempting to arrest.


D/Const John Cox

Died 25 November 1882, aged 23

Killed when shot in the back of the head by a Fenian activist.


D/Const Patrick Sinnott

Died 25 December 1892, aged 29

Blown up by dynamite outside the Detective Office at Dublin Castle.


Const Peter Carrigee

Died 28 August 1896, aged 25

Fatally beaten and kicked by a man he was trying to arrest for assault.


Const Patrick Sheahan

Died 6 May 1905, aged 28

Suffocated trying to rescue men overcome by fumes in a sewer.


Const James O`Brien

Died 24 April 1916, aged 48

Shot dead on guard duty by a rebel volunteer starting the Easter Rising.


Const Michael Lahiff

Died 24 April 1916, aged 29

Shot and fatally wounded by rebels while on duty unarmed.


Const William Frith

Died 27 April 1916, aged 38

Shot dead inside a police station in an exchange of fire with rebels.


Inspector John Mills

Died 11 June 1917, aged 51

Fatally beaten escorting prisoners arrested at a political meeting.


D/Sgt Patrick Smyth

Died 8 September 1919, aged 50

Ambushed and fatally shot by IRA gunmen after refusing to stop work.


D/Const Daniel Hoey

Died 12 September 1919, aged 32

Ambushed and shot dead by an IRA assassination squad.


Const Michael Downing

Died 22 October 1919, aged 25

Fatally shot as he approached three suspects while on foot patrol.


D/Sgt John Barton

Died 29 November 1919, aged 39

Ambushed by an IRA assassination squad, shot in the back and killed.


Asst/Cmr William Charles Forbes Redmond

Died 21 January 1920, aged 46

Ambushed by an IRA assassination squad, shot in the back and killed.


Const John M. Walsh

Died 20 February 1920, aged 38

Shot dead attempting to arrest gunmen being pursued by police.

Died 14 April 1920, aged 41

Ambushed by an IRA assassination squad, shot in the back and killed.


D/Const Laurence Dalton

Died 20 April 1920, aged 26

Shot and fatally wounded when ambushed on duty by gunmen.


Const Michael McCarthy

Died 24 April 1920, aged 28

Fatally shot by gunmen while off duty at home on his brother's farm.


Const William Thomas Steadman

Died 27 April 1921, aged 34

Shot and fatally wounded while taking dispatches across he city.
