Killed in a bicycle accident while visiting one of his constables.


SC George Brignall Marshall

Died 11 July 1941, aged 54

Killed by enemy action whilst on duty during an air raid.


West Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary


PC John George Turner

Died 26 July 1949, aged 53

Killed at a level crossing when an engine crashed through the gates.

PC James Neil

Died 10 November 1917, aged 61

Drowned in the dock having fallen in while on patrol during a storm.

Died 13 April 1942, aged 16

Died 14 June 1943, aged 38

Fatally injured by a bomb assisting an injured man during an enemy air raid.

Died 14 June 1943, aged 60

SC Thomas Goodwin

Died 14 June 1943, aged 36

Killed by bomb explosions while on duty during an enemy air raid.

Died 15 June 1943, aged 37

SC Nathan Wilkinson

Died 15 June 1943, aged 50

Insp Albert Alonzo Bridge

Died 26 June 1943, aged 52

Fatally injured by enemy action while on duty during the air raid of 14 June.

Died 19 October 1862, aged 40

Killed when a wall collapsed onto him whilst fighting a warehouse fire.

Died 19 September 1880, aged 28

Found drowned in the docks on his beat in suspicious circumstances.


PC Joseph Kemp

Died 29 September 1880, aged 30

Drowned when he accidentally fell into the dock water while on patrol at night.


PC George Salvidge

Died 28 November 1882, aged 28

Found drowned in the Humber Dock after failing to report in from night duty.


PC Edwin Holbrook

Died 2 August 1892, aged 43

Found drowned in the Old Harbour where he had been on night patrol.


PC William Wilson

Died 12 December 1894, aged 40

Collapsed and died while rescuing a child from a house on fire.

PC Ambrose Harrison

Died 2 January 1898, aged 24

Drowned when he accidentally fell into the dock while on his beat at night.


PC George Thomas Nettleton

Died 20 March 1905, aged 44

Killed attempting to stop a runaway horse and van, which ran over him.


SC John George Hornshaw

Died November 1915, aged 59

Collapsed and died on duty at the Cottingham Road motor halt.


PC Charles Christopher Winterbottom

Died 20 November 1940, aged 45

Fatally injured when his cycle was in collision with a motor car at night.

Fatally injured in a fall while helping unload ships in the docks.

Died 28 May 1948, aged 34

Died from injuries received when assaulted making an arrest in 1945.

Died 10 March 1966, aged 21

Killed while travelling to report for duty when a lorry collided with her moped.

Died 29 April 1968, aged 53

Fatally injured in a police car crash while he was escorting a prisoner.

Died 9 September 1979, aged 19

Killed when his patrol car crashed responding to a burglar alarm call.


PC Steven Alan H. Stimpson

Died 26 January 1998, aged 33

Accidentally killed when his traffic patrol car left the road and crashed.


PC James Telford Heaton

Died 2 August 1998, aged 30

Fatally injured when his traffic car crashed responding to an accident.


PC Jonathan Stuart Templeton

Died 7 September 1998, aged 37

Collapsed and died of heart failure on duty in Hedon police station.


PC Robert Ian Douglass

Died 24 July 2003, aged 44

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident returning from duties at the airport.


PC Russell Wylie

Died 14 April 2015, aged 28

Fatally injured 13 April when his police motorcycle was in collision with a car.
