Died 4 December 1857, aged 45

Fatally shot by a prisoner he was escorting by ship from Hamburgh.


PC George Sheldon Cossons

Died 15 May 1865, aged 40

Collapsed and died after chasing a boy crossing Blackfriars Bridge.


PC John Charles Davey

Died 17 January 1872, aged 50

Fatally injured in a fall down a hole while checking insecure premises.


PC George Easter

Died 30 September 1906, aged 38

Fatally injured by a van as he ran alongside to speak to the driver.


Sgt Charles Tucker

Died 16 December 1910, aged 46

Sgt Robert Bentley

Died 17 December 1910, aged 36

PC Walter Charles Choat

Died 17 December 1910, aged 34

Shot and fatally wounded trying to arrest a gang of armed burglars.

Posthumously awarded the King's Police Medal for Gallantry.


PC John Pharaoh Smith 

Died 20 January 1913, aged 40

Killed while directing traffic when he was knocked down by a motor bus.


SC Henry Thomas Godrich

Died 30 March 1915, aged 50

Found dead in a taxi after finishing 4 hours point duty on a cold night.


PC Thomas Minke

Died 30 September 1915, aged 35

Fatally injured by a bomb explosion during an enemy Zeppelin air raid.

Died 9 September 1940, aged 65

Fatally injured by enemy action at the City of London Police Hospital.


SC Leonard Charles Payne 

Died 24 September 1940, aged 20

Fatally injured in an enemy air raid while off duty assisting local ARP.

Died 30 October 1940, aged 36

Killed by enemy action while on duty during an air raid.

Died 11 January 1941, aged 25

Killed by enemy action while on duty during an air raid.

Killed by enemy action while on duty during an air raid.

Died of heart failure following a violent struggle to arrest a suspect.

Died 3 December 2002, aged 30

Fatally injured in an accident on a police motorcycle training course.
